Wednesday's Flower

Perpetua Strawberry Fields

Wednesday's Story

Simple…
Yet not…

A stem…
Thin and hollow supporting the main attraction.
Two leaves…
Sage green, soft and fuzzy, with curly filaments and veins running through them.
A flower…
Brilliant red bracts, with tiny little “flowers” protruding like exploding fireworks.

Those are a few of the nuances I noticed. What do you see?

points of interest

Upright spikes of clover-like ovoid flowerheads with prominent brilliant red bracts appear from summer to early autumn. Well-branched plants are upright, softly hairy, and have lance-shaped leaves arranged in opposite pairs. Use as a summer bedding annual, and as a cut flower, fresh or dried.

general care

Start by seed indoors and transplant outside once the chance of frost has passed. Grow in moderately fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. An excellent choice for dry, sunny locations.
