Wednesday's Flower

Spreading Sunset Lantana

Wednesday's Story

I was surprised by the square shape…

Of each bud and how they looked like teeny-tiny, little boxes; not a single one open. Each one of them seeming to be bursting at the seams, ready to explode like fireworks on the 4th of July. They radiate joy and a feeling of anticipation and excitement of opening a present or watching pyrotechnics.

points of interest

Spreading with coarse, deep green, ovate shaped leaves. Continuous from late spring to autumn, vivid orange-yellow flowers take on reddish pink tints with age. Flowers are 5-lobed, salverform and grouped tightly into rounded heads. Leaves and flowers have an astringent scent and may cause sever discomfort if ingested. Useful in containers or in front of the border, as a groundcover or accent. Where harry, select sterile cultivars as this plant can be highly invasive.

general care

Grow in fertile, moist, well-drained soil in full sun. Occasional water once established. Where hardy, apply balanced liquid fertilizer monthly, except during winter. Prune in spring
