Wednesday's Flower

Wednesday's Story
I’m always ooh’ing and ahh’ing…
…at the grace, elegance and beauty that each flower holds, and today is no exception. It begins with petals that curve as if descenders of an elegant script letter, and the others move in an upward motion gracefully shaping an ‘o’. Not only is its profile exceptional, but the colors from the deep plum to vibrant yellow compliment the soft champagne, peachy ‘o’ petals that could’ve only been created by the most amazing artist.
points of interest
From May to June, smoky, lavender standards above deeper velvety, red-brown, veined falls with dense, orange beards appear above fans of sword-like leaves. Bearded irises have thick surface rhizomes and branched stems bearing multiple flowers. Leaves and stems are gray-green and typically brown by late summer. Best suited for a mixed or herbaceous border.
general care
Prefers well-drained soil in full or part sun. Avoid high nitrogen fertilizer and keep moist during active growing season.
