Karma Thalia Dahlia

Wednesday's Story

Caught in the act of…

Blooming. It starts with a tight, chartreuse bud, then to each fluorescent red petal slowly peeling away from its core. As I look on though, it almost seems like it’s hesitating. Maybe it’s a little shy or overwhelmed with the task at hand of blooming, which is what I feel like sometimes. But I know it will continue to bloom, just as I will push on too.

Feeling a little overwhelmed yourself? Let this flower be your inspiration to keep pushing through.

points of interest

Karma dahlias are touted as the leading cut flower dahlia on the market, developed by Adrain and Case Verwer, longtime dahlia breeders. Stems are uniform and strong. Upright flowers have longer vase life (8-10 days) and flowering period. Production is also said to be faster and higher. Thalia is like the waterlily form with rich fuchsia coloration. Foliage is deep green and serrated.

general care

Dahlias prefer moist, humus-rich, well-drained soil in full sun. Keep well fed with nitrogen rich fertilizer about once a week until blooms appear, then switch to a potassium rich fertilizer. Water regularly once plants emerge. Cut blooms to encourage more. Karma series are patented and may not be propagated.

friday’s flower fact

Karma Thalia Dahlias are vegetatively propagated, unlike typical dahlias which are sold as tubers, and are exclusively available from Gloeckner.
