Redwing Mum Chrysanthemum

Wednesday's Story

It’s that time of year…

For Autumn and Chrysanthemums, and of course, here in the United States, Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving for me, is a wonderful reminder to be thankful and grateful for allthat I have in my life. As Oprah says, “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more. If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you will never, ever have enough.” Wishing you a time of reflection, gratitude and enjoying this holiday season.

points of interest

Redwing Mum is a “spoon” type chrysanthemum - flower heads are semi-double and the ray florets are arranged radially around a yellow center. Florets are tubular and spoon-shaped at the tips. The exterior of the tube is cream toned and the interior is purple-red; therefore flowers appear bi-color. It’s grown for flower exhibition, garden use and cutting. Leaves are aromatic and dark green. Blooms in late summer to early fall.

general care

Grow in full sun, in fertile, well-drained soil. Encourage heavier flowering and neat habit by pinching back.
