Wednesday's Flower
Wednesday's Story
In its stillness it prepares…
Like a dancer before her performance who takes the time to bow her head, pause, and focus inwardly for the strength and grace to perform her dance like no other dance she has performed until this moment; creating something more beautiful than she had ever hoped to create before. This flower prepares, just as thoughtfully, to create its dance in nature that is beyond any performance I could ever imagine.
points of interest
Upright and rounded evergreen shrub with leafy, purple or rose-magenta terminal racemes. Bases of the keels are white and borne midsummer to late autumn. Attractive to hummingbirds.
general care
Grow in moderately fertile, humus-rich, sharply-drained soil in full sun or partial shade. Pruning group 9 (late flowering evergreen shrubs): prune, lightly if at all, mid to late spring, as this plant blooms in summer and late autumn on previous or current year’s growth.
friday’s flower fact
Each colorful, pea-like flower of the Sweet Pea Shrub resembles a bird, with a set of broad, petal-wings and a low petal with a fringed apex at the keel.
