Wednesday's Flower

Wednesday's Story
A green stem shoots up from the earth…
It’s thin, but sturdy, and from this stem bright yellow petals effortlessly curve out and downwards. Added to those vibrant petals it looks, as if in the night, a skillful artist has come and hand-painted each one with a burnished orange, knowing exactly when to lift the brush to leave a soft, ragged edge. From this green stem comes the petals, and from the petals a dark brown crown has been strategically placed on top to form this masterful piece of art.
points of interest
Bristly, thick, branching stems with ovate, hairy basal leaves, bear daisy-like flowerheads in mixes of yellow, mahogany, bronze, and gold. Flower centers are deep purple-brown. They bloom from summer to early autumn and often grown as an annual. Grow in a border or naturalize in a meadow or wild garden. Good cut flower.
general care
Direct sow in spring or plant starts in moderately fertile, preferably heavy, moist well-drained soil in full or partial sun. Allow to self-seed.
