Wednesday's Flower
Wednesday's Story
It wasn’t an ah-ha moment…
But it was an ahhhhh moment. As I sat down at my desk, I was feeling the pressure of all that needed to be done. But as I sat down, I saw this bloom up on my screen, and I felt a wave of calmness come over me. Its brilliant colors, connection to nature, and soft flowing petals gave me much to reflect on. It made me pause and, even though there is a lot going on, it allowed me to take a deep breath; to take a moment in time to be here… to be present.
points of interest
Lavender to violet, tubular flowers bloom from the upper leaf axils in loose, purple-stemmed clusters over a long period. Branching from the ground, stems are clothed in elongated, willow-like, dark green leaves. Flowers are followed by small, bean-like pods. Fast grower that may spread aggressively by rhizomes. The cultivar ‘Purple Showers’ has sterile seed. Grow near water’s edge, in a border or as a container annual in cooler climates.
general care
Plant in full sun to partial shade in fertile, consistently moist, but well-drained soil.
