Pink joy!... It doesn’t come from a plant. It doesn’t come from a flowering bush. It blooms on a tree that is 40’ tall, and can even grow up to 100’. The fruit it bears is in the shape of a canoe. How truly fascinating nature is.

Lady in Red… As this variety is called, is stunning as it takes its time unfolding to its full, brilliant, color. It starts with light greenish-pink petals standing upright. Then as it matures through the summer, each stem, ever so gently, bends forward. With this transformation, it surprises us with another view of its burgundy rose petals. Cortona, Italy… We traveled there late in October. To my dismay, but not a total surprise, all of the fields had been cleared of the much loved sunflowers of Tuscany. A childhood recollection… As my eyes look at the long, narrow, white petals. Thoughts come flooding back to me of hoping the last one I picked would tell me “he” loves me… a delightful memory of the past of counting petals for the sake of love. Flowers create connections to so many things in our lives.

It sounds so delicious… I want to eat it up, and actually I could as it’s edible. This flower is found in many vivid colors. I picked this one for its unique flower color: deep purple-black velvety petals, though, what struck me was the bright yellow light radiating from its center… a reminder that there is a ray of sunshine in everyone. What I see… Dreamy and romantic. Soft and luxurious. Petal after petal. A little elusive. Almost ambiguous. But altogether lovely and calming. Find this flower photograph and others available for purchase in our floral print store.
