A sea of orange… Filled my lens and now my screen. It blankets my surroundings in a vibrant orange expanse of color, reminding me that there is always something to brighten my day and to be thankful for. Sometimes I may need to put a little effort into finding it, but fortunately not today.

Sheer exuberance... This flower exudes as it raises its petals with joy and elation above its sharp and prickly needles. It makes me think of a friend of mine who raises her arms above her head and rejoices at a moments notice. A feeling of peacefulness… Washes over me as I focus on these five petals that are delicately folded over each other, as if embracing. I, in turn, want to embrace this moment of calm and peacefulness; a moment to breathe. And if (when) the craziness of the day takes over, I will come back to this flower and allow its peacefulness to touch me again.

It's been a long time coming… To share this flower and to launch floatingpetals.com. I’ve been saving this particular bloom for the launch of this beautiful new website and today is the day. My first flower... From my cutting garden. Grown from seed…a seed from a packet. An intricate yet simple seed covered by a ¼ inch of dirt, watered, and warmed by the sun. This seed that turned into a seedling, into a plant, and flowered...a miracle I was so honored to experience, and now, to share its beauty with you.
