MY TWO CENTS
Christmas isn’t a season. It’s a feeling. I tried to find where this quote came from, meaning if it was from one of Ferber’s books or plays or if it was something she said outside of her writing, but to no avail. No matter though, it’s a lovely and simple quote, and yet complex at the same time. Wishing you the warm and joyful feeling of Christmas.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Edna Ferber (August 15, 1885 – April 16, 1968) was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Her father came from Hungary and was a storekeeper. Her mother was born in Wisconsin and both of her parents were of Jewish descent. Ferber’s career started in newspapers. She then went on to publish many novels, and one of which, ‘So Big’ became a Pulitzer Prize winner. A number of her books became plays and/or movies and she was also a playwright and short story writer. Ferber was a member of the Algonquin Round Table, which was a group of writers, critics, actors and wits who met for lunch daily from 1919 until 1929. She never married and was not known to have had any romantic relationships during her life. Ferber passed away in her apartment in New York City at age 82 of stomach cancer.
I will add that I’m quite impressed that Ms. Ferber in the early 1900’s, who came from humble means, had the confidence to both write novels and get her work published in what was predominately a man’s world.
