FLOWER QUOTE: THE LOVE OF GARDENING Oct 02, 2017
The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies.

MY TWO CENTS
The love of gardening is a seed once sown that never dies… At times, toward the end of the gardening season here in New England, I’m ready to take a break, but I also know that throughout the winter I will dream about my gardens for the coming year. During the winter I will also enjoy planning my cutting garden along with forced bulbs and plants inside to keep that touch of nature near at hand. So it is, that sowing a seed for the love of gardening, in whatever fashion that may be, never dies.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Gertrude Jekyll (November 29 1843 – December 8, 1932) was born in Mayfair, England. Before I continue, though, are you as curious as I am to know if her last name ‘Jekyll’ has anything to do with Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde?!? Surprisingly in an indirect way it does, as her brother was friends with Robert Louis Stevenson who borrowed their last name for his novella. I have wondered about that every time I have come across her name. Anyway, more importantly Jekyll was a very influential gardener both in England and America. She wrote over a thousand articles for various publications such as Country Life and The Garden along with developing and creating more than 400 gardens. Jekyll also wrote many books about gardening and was a painter, photographer and designer. She often collaborated with Sir Edwin Lutyens, a renowned architect.
