MY TWO CENTS
Some people are always grumbling because roses have thorns; I am thankful that thorns have roses… I appreciate being reminded that it all comes down to how you see it or reframe it. You can see the rose and be distracted by and complain about the thorns, or you can see the thorns and rejoice in the rose.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jean-Baptistie Alphonse Karr (November 24, 1808 – September 29, 1890) was born in Paris. He studied at the Collège Bourbon. He became a professor at the college he graduated from. Karr wrote numerous novels and some of them were autobiographical romances. Two of his best known writings are ‘Geneviève’ (1838) and ‘Voyage Autour de Mon Jardin’ (1845).
In 1855, Karr went to live in Nice, France, where he indulged his predilections for floriculture, and gave his name to more than one new variety, notably the dahlia (New International Encyclopedia). Indeed, he practically founded the trade in cut flowers on the French Riviera.[1] I am often surprised by the wondrous facts I learn about these authors, and to learn that he named the dahlia was quite fun!
Karr created the well known epigram: “the more things change, the more they stay the same.”
