FLOWER QUOTE: ATTENTION IS THE RAREST AND PUREST FORM Oct 09, 2017
Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosity

MY TWO CENTS
Attention is the rarest and purest form of generosityThe author, Simone Weil, lived too short of a life, but she also lived way before cell phones were even a concept. So to think that during her lifetime she wrote this quote, it must have meant that even without cell phones it was still a challenge to get or give attention and be totally aware of the person(s) you were with. And now, in this day and age of cell phones, this quote could not be more apropos. How often do I allow myself to be distracted in the presence of someone I have chosen to be with in order to get my dopamine fix… I think it really takes a concerted effort on each of our parts to put our phones down or wandering thoughts in order to be fully present and to give the generosity of our attention; it will no doubt strengthen the relationships that are most important to us.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Simone Weil (February 3, 1909 – August 24, 1943) was a writer, philosopher, mystic and political activist for the working class. She was raised as an agnostic, but through a few powerful experiences she was drawn to the Roman Catholic church, though was never baptized into the church. Weil’s changing beliefs understandably affected her writings, and it wasn’t until the 50’s and 60’s, after her death, that her work became well known. As a baby, Weil had health issues and continued to struggle with them until she died at a very early age of 34 of tuberculosis.
