LEARNING MY VALUE Apr 21, 2015

I was watching the Today Show recently and saw an interview with Mika Brzezinski who co-hosts ‘Cup A Joe’. She has written a book called Knowing Your Value and has a new one coming out in May called Grow Your Value. In conjunction with her new book release, she has partnered with Johnson and Johnson and created a day seminar and contest. So, I checked it out online and decided to enter…what was I thinking?

The contest required submitting a one-minute video explaining the value you bring. I had to ponder, what is my value? My worth? I spent a lot of time writing and rewriting my thoughts, and here is a very short summary of it:

My value, through my website, is to make a difference in someone’s day by sharing the beauty and wonder of flowers…to allow everything else to melt away and just be in awe of each flower’s wonder, even if just for a moment.

With the text written, now came the hardest part for me: actually recording myself. This meant really stepping outside of my comfort zone, and boy did it feel like one giant leap! After many takes and using up all of the space on my iPhone, I finally made it through one full minute, and I was ready for the last step. With a click of a button it was submitted. I breathed a sigh of relief that I had accomplished it and released a lot of nervous energy that my husband so kindly listened to and supported.

Will I be selected as one of the top three contestants for May? Maybe, maybe not, but I feel as if I’ve already won as I challenged myself and acknowledged my worth.

Share with me your value below as I would love to hear all about it and have a conversation with you.

  1. I love that you challenged yourself, especially that you had to declare your own value. Too often I find myself looking for outer praise to shore up my selfvalue.

    1. Thanks for you kind words, and I will challenge you to declare your value to yourself as the rest of us sure see it! Maybe even make it the first thing you remind yourself of every morning when you get up. :-)
