FLOWER QUOTE: RAISE YOUR WORDS Aug 14, 2017
Raise your words not your voice - Rumi

MY TWO CENTS
Raise your words, not voice. It is rain that grows flowers, not thunder… A simple, but profound quote as a reminder to bring our thoughts and conversations to a higher level, but not to use our voice as a weapon. It’s so much more appreciated to be spoken to with thoughtfulness and encouragement rather than a strict and harsh tone, and I must work on doing the same in return.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Jalāl ad-Dīn Muḥammad Balkhī (September 30, 1207-December 17, 1273) is the author of this quote, or better known as Rumi in English. He was a 13th-century Persian Sunni Muslim poet, jurist, Islamic scholar, theologian, and Sufi mystic. Rumi’s works are written mostly in Persian. His Masnavi (Mathnawi), composed in Konya, is considered one of the greatest poems of the Persian language [1]. Rumi was passionate about the use of music, poetry and dance as the journey for reaching God. He was an accomplished teacher and Islamic jurist, but after meeting dervish Shams-e Tabrizi in November 1244, he turned to severe self-discipline and abstention from all forms of indulgence in the desire to come closer to God. Upon his death, he was buried next to his father and a shrine was erected with the following epitaph: When we are dead, seek not our tomb in the earth, but find it in the hearts of men. Rumi believed that all religions that choose the path to God were more or less equal, and he taught tolerance, thoughtfulness and awareness of others through love.
