In the midst of the fog is where this adventure began. As I write about it I’m finding I’m getting emotional about it, but not because it was a scary adventure or one with lots of risks. Instead, it was an adventure of nature, to explore, to connect; to experience something I had not experienced before in the middle of nowhere. It wasn’t earth shattering, and yet it was for me.
As I turned to the field, I was stunned and awed by the beauty and peacefulness around me.
It started with Jack, our plumber and nature lover, who introduced me to this flower, Canada Lily, and this field. He knew the owners of the property and mentioned they would not be up until the day after. So, I took the hint, and I knew it would be an opportunity I couldn’t miss to come be in this field and shoot this bloom.
The next morning, the day before the family was ascending on the property, the fog was heavy. As I was getting ready to leave, I wondered what kind of view I would have with the fog. I also knew I couldn’t let it deter me from going. So, at 6am I hopped into my Jeep Wrangler and drove to this new destination.
Upon arrival I gathered my equipment. As I turned to the field, I was stunned and awed by the beauty and peacefulness around me. The fog only added to the view along with all of the lovely sounds of nature and birds chirping all around me.
This flower surrounded me. It gave me many opportunities to see its varying perspectives. With the fog present, the wind was still, making it the perfect condition for shooting. It was a beautiful and meditative morning of both pausing in my surroundings and setting up for the next photo. The quiet of the fog and the early morning were rejuvenating. I will always treasure being in the midst of the fog. An experience beyond compare.
In today’s world, it’s easy to see life through someone else’s lens, but what life is really about is taking time out to find your own adventures; to broaden your view and create your own emotional connection. It takes effort, but it’s worth every bit of it to step out of our comfort zones and experience life and nature.
